Workings and drawings of steam and deisel locomotives
Posted by Bill Whittle on Sunday, January 7, 2007 11:22 PM
I am wondering if anyone can possibly help me?  I am looking for sketches or drawings of both steam and diesel locomotives.  They don't necessarily have to be drawn to scale, and they should point out the basic parts of the locomotive and what that part does.  I am helping my grandson with an elementary school science project.  I would be very appreciative of any help that anyone can give.  Thank you. Googled "Howstuffworks - steam locomotives" and got a quick and dirty beginner's eye view of the technology.

Kalpubco's Model Railroader Cyclopedia, Volume 1, Steam locomotives has a more technical and exhaustive description.

Didn't bother to Google diseasels - but I imagine the results would be similar.  There might even be an internal link within "Howstuffworks."
