Perhaps those filthy rich and unprepared are(were?) convinced that Global Warming was a rock hard solid fact, so of course no need for snow tires et al!Dunce [D)]

Went over to the Cusomer service page, etc. that you describe.....and found that is the exact location I applied my new address and when my screen name changed to qmong....

I went back again earlier and input the "old" dial up address back in and recovered my "Modelcar" screen name again.

So you are getting this page

And it's still not  working for you?

.....AG:

"Returning Guest" and "New Guest" are  the two choices on a similar page to the one you display on your post...I don't get a page that gives me a choice of "Old Email" and "New Email" as you show on your last post.

When I went with returning guest I had to install the "old" dial up address or it rejected it...and when I chose the new guest spot and entered my new address than that's when it inserted the unwanted "qmong" screen name and started all my history at "O"....Which is not what I want.

I'm simply trying to enter a new address and retain the "Modelcar" screen name.  Of course it tells me that has been used or something like that...

Modelcar, when you get to the Returning Guest/New Guest page, log in as a returning guest with your old email address (and password).  That should then bring you to your account page.  If it doesn't, it should bring you to a page that has "My Account" as a link - click on that link.

From there, you should be able to access a link from the list on the right side of the page that allows you to change your email address.

Well, when I click on "log in"  from  the side that says "returning guest" , (using my old address) I am sent to a page that lists  "Access and manage your account" as a red lettered, clickable choice.

Which when I click on that, it gives me a page with a left hand column titled "Your account information",  and a right hand column being made up of a stack of several menu items, the first group being headed by

 ACCOUNT INFORMATION

followed by

UPDATE ACCOUNT

And when I select the second item under that heading--, "change your e-mail"

I get the entry box I showed you earlier

...........Ok, Datafever and AG:

I have found the page both you fellows were trying to lead me to.....and following Datafever's advice I did so....and the end result was, it indicated:

"Email Address is already taken"  which we know it's not, because it really is mine....Ugh...!!

.....Back to square one...

Yes, modelcar, I think that at some point, you may have inadvertently created yourself as a new user with your new email address and now the system can't accommodate you.  This is a job for Super-Bergie!!!

But hey, there is yet another solution that you can take if you should so choose to do so.

You can go to a site that offers free email addresses, such as yahoo or hotmail.  Create yourself an email address.  Then change your (old) trains account to that email address instead.

..........I fully agree with you Datafever....100%....I know I have entered my "new" address and now it thinks someone else is trying to "deal with the same address" and is telling me "I" can't to so....".

Trouble is....before when I did enter the new address somehow my screen name changed to "qmong" and that's when all the crap started.

Anyway....I thank both you fellows for the effort of help.  Hope we can make it work a bit later with Bergie.  I can use the "old" address, as I am now until the end of the month when it will expire.

....Understand, but believe I better not "get a bigger shovel" at this point and dig the hole deeper...ha...Thanks.  I'll keep faith Bergie can settle the problem a bit later.

The news is actually even better than you suggest, modelcar.  You can continue to use your old email address for as long as you like.  You won't be able to receive email from trains.com after your old account expires at the end of the month, but you will always be able to log on to trains.com using the old email address.  The log-in system will never know that the email address has been invalidated.

Yes, getting it corrected is a good thing.  After all, you would not want to miss out on any of the trains.com email updates.  Even though I don't have a subscription to Trains and can't access many of the linked features, I still enjoy the information that the emails contain.

....Right, must have the ability to have input from Trains.com and the weekly rail news update.

I've been a subscriber for years now and some subscriptions dating back decades.

I believe that all four are sold out.  Sadly, there just isn't any extra equipment.

You know what the lesson from all of this is? MAKE RESERVATIONS AND TAKE THE TRAIN!! Maybe you wouldn't get there as fast, but you'd get there still.

This reminds me of a billboard I made for my model trains' Christmas layout. It is advertising Amtrak, of course, and it says, "Get on board today and GET THERE FIRST." Unfortunately, a lot of people still don't take the train. When will we learn?

....We will learn when they somehow improve the budget so Amtrak can improve the quanity of trains running and more cars on each during peak times so more people can ride....

A few weeks ago, when the last storm blew through and messed up O'Hare before heading east, we had a guest at our hotel that was talking about getting stuck there overnight. When I said that it was a pity that we didn't have Amtrak up here so he could have gotten through the day before, he recounted that he never travelled by train save for when he lived in Washington DC for a couple of years. One winter they had one of their rare snowstorms that shut everything down and he was nervous about getting stranded so he called the VRE (is that correct?) and was reassured when the operater said, "No problem, we'll just put another engine on and push our way through!"

..............Sure....years ago when trains were really the main means of transportation and there were plenty of them running, it was kind of natural to think of railroad transportation during times of rough winter weather would get through no matter what.

I'm sure there were delays as rough winter does to every means of movement, but seemed they were solid in their capacity to make it through even the worst of it.

Of course time has changed all of that but if we would still have a more generous coverage of the miles by our rail passenger service I'm sure it would really be a big help not only in those winter times but most holidays and peak summer travel times.  As well as many miles of normal times.

Considering the horror story regarding Amtrak that was posted a couple of weeks ago, I personally would be hesitant to take the train in bad weather.

There is some thought going around that the quick departure of the former Amtrak VP of Transportation, a six month veteran, may be tied to the total failure to deal with the problems caused by the ice storm in Illinois.

Challenge question:  Can anyone come up with a form of transportation that can't be subject to delays from one cause or another?  Especially weather delays?

I've noticed that trains are not exempt, but they often seem to be the last to go down.

I am now retired and I have never been delayed by weather while driving around USA  in my personal vehicle.(pickup). I have always been prepared during winter. Maybe I have been lucky as well.

I think taking Amtrak could be better than the airlines because Amtrak trains can run any where.
