BNSF wreck Coon Rapids, MN

Anyone go and see the wreck in person? Amazingly no one was hurt, no chemical spill and it did not damage property. Amazingly the one place that cars piled up was between a row of garages in an open space. They think it was a broken rail or broken rail joint. All the stuff on board seems to be store merchandise.

Stopped by tonight on the way home....trains started going through about 7:45 this morning REAL SLOW and still are tonight they hope to be at speed sometime tomorrow. Track looks all done and they are loading the containers on to trucks. Still have well cars sitting upright on the grass though, that would be interesting to watch those get moved.

Didn't see the wreck in person, but I did get to see Amtrak detour through my area, which only happens once every couple years (basically whenever there is a derailment like this).  For two days the Empire Builder ran from Fargo to St. Paul via BNSF's Moorhead, Morris, and Wayzata subs instead of the usual Staples sub.

I caught him in Morris on Monday the 18th around 10am

I'll welcome any other trips Amtrak wants to make through Morris...

I don't hear about a lot of wrecks on that line. I've heard of some of the most famous such as the Montley wreck. Back in 1980s, the head on collision of two coal trains. Got pics of that one. Yike!! They said it sounded like an Atomic bomb going off.

They're still working at picking up things....they have mobile work floods set up along the tracks as you can see the glow over the tree's. Haven't had time to go the extra block and a half to be nosey though! Maybe tomorrow, might sneak out early.
