Presidential Emergency Board to investigate union/Metro-North dispute

Yesterday, the National Mediation Board announced President Bush established Emergency Board 240 to investigate a collective-bargaining dispute between MTA Metro-North Railroad and several labor organizations.

The board will conduct a hearing and make a recommendation for settlement within 30 days. Work stoppages are prohibited for 120 days following the creation of the emergency board.

The coalition had been working with Metro-North officials to negotiate a new contract, but negotiations stalled, according to the coalition.

Representing about 3,500 Metro-North workers, the Metro-North Labor Coalition comprises the TCU, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Firemen and Oilers of SEIU, Teamsters Rail Conference, Transport Workers Union and Sheet Metal Workers International Association

Is this the dispute where medical benefits are in dispute? Something about management wanting employees to pick up a bigger portion of the costs?
