Question 1-
Two forum members grew up in towns about 100 miles apart in Illinois. Now their Cities are over 100 miles apart in Indiana.
An American Railroad Company serves the Gopher State and the Buckeye State, but not the Garden State. They also serve the two member's Cities.
What route would this company use to haul traffic on their lines between these Cities ? (Answer below)

Yes, that is all correct. (Railroad company, not railroad, and Amtrak serves NJ)

No, Grand Trunk did/does run through Valparaiso, but never reached Indianapolis. The middle part of the route I'm looking for was part of GTW before they sold it.

Chad might be onto something there. Was it US Steel Co., that operated railroad companies in both MN and Ohio?

Ops I read the question wrong anyway. Now I see it's the route you are after.
I don't know about a big trip back east, but I am getting closer as I plan on going to eastern Wyoming and mabee Nebraska this fall on a railfan trip with my dad.
