Chicago Cubs used Amtrak
Posted by ndbprr on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 8:05 AM
The Cubs took Amtrak from Washington DC after playing the Nationals to New York for the Mets series that started 7/24.  The announcers in last nigts game were gushing over the high speed and how everybody thought it was great.  Then the camera zeroed in on the Amtrak ad in Shea stadium.  All together they must have talked about it for two or three minutes also commenting about that is the way teams used to travel.

That's great PR for Amtrak.   Were they able to rent an entire car (or cars)?

More ballclubs should do that for short trips.    It' a lot easier on the ears than flying.

Well I'll be. That would have been a great train to've been riding. Between Washington and New York, the train was probably faster than air travel. I assume by the fast speeds described they rode Acela. I'm telling you, that would have been cool!

AND they won last night! Maybe they can take Amtrak more often if it's good luck. Uh...nevermind, the train would hit a goat and that'd be all she wrote. GO CUBS 2007!!!

Amtrak not only advertises in Shea Stadium -- there's an ad in across town in Yankee Stadium as well. The New York Yankees ride Amtrak Acela trains to games in Boston and Baltimore.

If the Cubs sweep the Mets they need to ride Amtrak more often Atlanta needs any help they can get to get back to their top spot to make it 15 Division Titles back to back.

A lot of sports teams use Amtrak NEC service and so far I haven't heard any complaints.

The Cubs announcers were just thrilled to be talking about anything other than another Cubs loss or the latest Cub to be placed on the injured list (the Cubs have had soooo many players on the DL the last few years, you whould swear that it's a fraternity). And no, the Cubs didn't have to rent their own car because nobody knows who there are anyway. I mean who wants autographd from triple-A players anyway?

The Sox did it last year - rode the NEC and won the World Series. I remember the announcers talking about it. It may be Detroit's turn this year, but I wouldn't say a Sox trainwreck is imminent, just a hotbox at this point.

Amtrak advertises the NEC at both Yankee Stadium and Fenway, they had the $99 fare ad on national TV in the green thingie behind home plate for the ALDS games last year.

If the Cubs did manage to win the World Series, half the fans might stop showing up for games. FWIW, there have been rumors in some Chicago papers that Donald Trump wants to buy the Cubs.

Ozzie said he was speechless after today's game. Speechless! That's like me saying I don't trains anymore.

I wouldn't have been surprised -- in light of how the Cubbies' season is going -- if they'd have gotten on the wrong train.

Ozzie needs to shoot his mouth off again, the team plays well after he does that.

What about starting Central States Acela service between Milwaukee, Chicago, and St. Louis.

With the additional service from Amtrak the Cubs can take the Acela Trains to more games.

What about the Tigers? And the Twins? Anyone up for high-fives on their accomplishments over the White Sox? Anyone else here love seeing the White Sox lose? What about Pierzynski and his attitude? Hehe, I'm surprised the move Michael Barrett made on him hadn't happened earlier. And how about Ozzy and his explosion over the youngster pitcher not beaning the Ranger batter? Demotion to AAA to finish it off. Score on that one, Mr. Guillen. Pirate [oX)]Dunce [D)]

So Ozzie happens to be old school, nothing wrong with that. It's not like the other team doesn't know that if they hit our guy we're hitting one of theirs...

Pierzynski certainly is an interesting character. However; the Barrett incident was TOTALLY unprovoked and it was unfair for AJ to be ejected and fined (although he did contest the fine and got it greatly reduced).

Twins? Tigers? I'll take them seriously when I see their 2006 World Series Championship ring.

Amtrak Corridors to upgrade to High-Speed Passenger Service are Detroit to Chicago and Chicago to Minneapolis. This way the Tigers, White Sox, and Twins as well as their fanatical followers can travel by rail to all the baseball games.

Hey, hey, hey! A SWEEP of the Cardinals. Second SWEEP of the year.

Now, I need to forget about the Yankees 19-6 loss Saturday. Then all will be well.

AJ's hit would have been a clean sack in high school football - he didn't go for the head or knees or come in spikes flying ala Ty Cobb. Ozzie doesn't have a problem with what Barrett did either, only the media and fans who need something to talk about. And Ozzie isn't making lame excuses for how the team has been playing lately either. It's not Barrett's 'fault', or the Goat, or a fan, or injuries. AJ and Ozzie would fit right in with the '85 Bears who had a lot of characters as well. More than I can say about the current Bears or the Cubs whose fortunes are unlikely to change without a change of ownership and attitude.

Ever consider that maybe Prior wants to be traded? Corey Patterson is playing great ball with the O's, I wonder what Mark would do with the Yanks or Mets Big Smile [:D]

If riding a train can result in a baseball team WINNING.....

then we need to get the Tampa Bay Devil Rays loaded onto a freight train as soon as possible!

Since the Cubs rode the train they took 3 of 4 from the Mets and almost won the fourth and they just took four of four from St. Louis.
