Why don't non-Trains subscribers get it anymore? There are seveal articles of great intrest to me, but, since I don't subscribe to Trains, I can't read them.
Such as,
Details finalized for fall excursions behind Chinese steam must be those 2-10-2s on the Iowa Interstate.
Iowa ethanol trading and distribution center will boost short line
The first of its kind in the US, which will be served by the Iowa Northern Railway. I gathered info on the ethanol center from the IANR yahoo group.

Perhaps you have them in your email.

I do subscribe to MR and I am getting the CD set on modeling sold by Kalmbach, and I do GO TO MY LOCAL SHOP TO GET TRAINS. Bucause I buy my copies rather than subscribe I am penalized. Go figure.
Kalmbach, shame on you.

Why would you subscribe to MR, and buy Trains at the hobby shop?
I still don't understand those who are complaining about this. It's their website. They're still letting you use most of it for free. I think it's presuming upon their good will to complain about one detail on the free portion of that site.
I don't subscribe to MR. I will occasionally buy an issue if a cover catches my eye, but at the moment, that's maybe 1 or 2 times a year. As such, I don't have access to the online reviews. That's the price I pay for non-subscription. I'm not prepared to complain incessantly about it.
You shouldn't worry about the lack of access to the Newswire. All the big news items make it into Trains anyways, so since you buy it every month at the hobby shop you'll still read about it. Of course if you're just saying that to support your argument, I guess you're out of luck.

I have subscribed for many years but that was when there was no local hobby shop where I lived. The reason I buy over the counter rather then subscribe is because I like to support my local hobby shop. I don't mind paying extra for the counter price as I know it helps the LHS. Now to get access to the newswire I have to subscribe and if that were the case the LHS would loose out on my bussiness. I don't buy a lot of rolling stock these days so books and mags are most of the bussiness I give them. I don't think that's right. I think I should be able to support my local hobby shop and have the same access as subscribers. There has to be easy ways to prove you are an over the counter reader and still have access to the newswire. Oh well, there are other sources of news on the net. I've decided not to subscribe.

I've just decided thet the newswire is not all that important.

Shame on us? Try to keep in mind that the News Wire that you were using FOR FREE for the past several years costs us tens of thousands of dollars to produce, edit, and maintain.
After several years of offering the News Wire for free, we have decided to make this a bonus for Trains magazine subscribers only, recognizing their commitment to the magazine, and our commitment to them.

Did you link your Trains.com account to your subscription when you signed up for the new site?
Nooo, Dick. SHAME ON YOU!
You're NOT being penalized. Too many here tend to forget what ol' Doc Milt Friedman meant when he said "There is no such thing as a free lunch." Bergie understands because he knows firsthand the economies of operating a publishing house.
On second thought, though, maybe you're right. Shame on Kalmbach -- for making the mistake of trying to do something nice for people all these years -- by providing the excellent Trains NewsWire for free for so long, and thereby making itself vulnerable to taking pipe from unappreciative, disgruntled people who have the gall to use a Kalmbach-supported, free forum to bite the hand that feeds them.
I look at it this way -- Those who make a long-term commitment by purchasing a subscription are getting a bonus here.
And to all who are threatening to leave the forum because of this, Ta-Ta!

However, if they don't (and they aren't) I'm not going to take Amtrak to Millwalkee and start a riot in front of their headquarters (gosh I hope I didn't just give someone an idea...)
