Breakup Railroads That Lie!

It will take an economic crisis to get Congress to finally act. As I stated before, according to energy sector analysts, 2006 may be the year when it all comes crumbling down, as railroads have not kept up with demands for coal deliveries in 2005, and demand for coal is supposed to skyrocket in 2006, yet there has been little if any in railroad capacity improvements on coal hauling corridors. The railroads seem to think that increasing capacity on the import intermodal corridors is a priority. Combine that poor service with the current round of rate gouging imposed upon domestic producers, and it is easy to predict that legislative action is inevitable. The only question is if it takes place before the 2006 elections, which assumes the Republicans will take the lead on breaking up the rail oligarchy (less likely), or after the 2006 elections, which assumes the lack of action on behalf of the Republicans will result in the Democrats taking back the House or Senate (more likely).
