Worker calls 911 after legs severed

From the Dallas Morning News today from Cleborne, TX:

Basically, a guy working for Gunderson was coupling cars when he slipped and fell beneath them. They cut off both his legs. He still managed to get his cell phone and call 911 for help. The site also has a link to the TV story which has the 911 tapes of the call (They are amazing). He is in critical condition but is expected to make it.

Let's hope that the company (its lawyers) don't find a way to make it his fault and deny workman's comp. It didn't say where his legs were amputated. I hope it was in a location conducive to prosthetics, so he can live the rest of his life in a dignafied way.

SInce Worker's Comp is strict liability, unlike FELA that most railroad workers are governed by, he should have no problem getting Comp.

Back in the early 90s I remember an incident where a boy got stuck in a piece of farm equipment and sheered off both his arms. Incredibly, Both arms were retrieved intact and surgically reattached, which I thought was amazing. And these days surgeons are even transplanting severed hands and even faces taken from donated bodies of other people.

I also hope he makes it.Back in the 80s we had a conductor who has the same thing happen and he passed away. He was working 3rd trick and slipped and was hit as the train was making a reverse move..God willing he will be ok.

Very sad to hear this happen! I'm sorry to hear about this and my prayers are with him.
