Railroad crew work cycles

As i have stated i used to be a "rail' Some people that i still keep in touch with tell stories of being called say for a 3pm road job. They report to the yard get their orders get on the lead unit and sit for 12 hours then go home. The yard master crew caller calls them for a run not taking into consideration the 1 outlawed train ahead of them.Or the fact that a diamond just 2 miles out of the yard is blocked by a train in emergency and has 5 trains backed up behind it.I understand it is more tiring to sit in a cab for 12 hours than to be on the road!"management" at its best!

Well, they call crews in so what happened at CN/UP's Itasca Yard doesnt happen.

Thought a train would be in the hole the whole day, got the area clear fast, the train was ready tro depart with 3 trains behind it. Thing was, the idiots didnt call a crew in! What a mess that was.

Mechanical Department  "No no that's fine shove that 20 pound set all around the yard... those shoes aren't hell and a half to change..."
