I hate it when stupid reporters ( or anyone ) pretend they know stuff about trains. Just like the BNSF story , " OMFG, IT WAS LEFT RUNNING, WE ARE GONNA DIE "

Alec
You are SO RIGHT- I have heard news agencies saying how trains "sneak up on people", "and catch them off gaurd."or "didn't notice"

Listen Mr. Anchorman, I have been close to idling locomotives in museams, and the inside of my body was rattiling from the noise of that thing just standing there that I DIDN"T notice ANYTHIG else....

Jeez
You wouldn't think a train could sneak up on you, But trust me it can. If a train is idleing downgrade in thick vegitation and you are up wind, they can be very quiet.
Ok here's the logic behind why they say that a train can sneak up on you. If you say that "trains are loud and you wil be able to get out of the way." People are then going to think "I can hear the train and get out of the way" and walk on thte tracks. But if you say it can sneak up on you then people are going to be scared and stay off the tracks. Which leads to the moral question "is it ok to lie to save a life" In this sitiuation I think it is moral.
Andrew Miller
