Chad lifts suspension on "where is it" activity
Posted by chad thomas on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 3:17 PM
Well I'm back from the land of ice and snow. It was a social mission so I didn't have time to go out railfanning but I did have a few encounters. I caught the new Modoc Northern power in Tulelake. The lighting was bad but I took a few shots anyway. Then I watched a few UP trains in Dorris as my friend's house has a view of the tracks. I also caught the local switching gypsum loads at Gerlach,Nv. and I caught the Lovelock local in Hazen on my way back. Not that special but a rare catch for me.

Anyway I did manage to find the time to dig my photos out of storeage. I should have plenty of material for the where is its now. I just need to get some more stuff scanned as I am about out of material on my PC. In the meantime miniwyo might be able to fill in seeing how he did a good job with it.

Two questions-

Does United States Gypsum still have that shortline at Gerlach ?

Did you get any shots of that white FEMA truck coming up from Mexico and knocking down that sign across the Interstate ?

Yes, US Gypsum still has a line from Empire to Gerlach. They use a 70 tonner. A friend of mine was the engineer for a while in the mid 90's. I wouldn't let him drive my car, let alone a freight train, but he somehow managed it.

You lost me on the fema truck. Did I miss something?

There was a "Government Truck" that knocked down a large sign that was crossing the Interstate, closing the northbound lanes in San Diego about 3 days ago.
