Oh, thanks. I misunderstood. I thought that CSX was installing some sort of device to look for the defect on the locos. Ours don't have any of the decals that CSX puts on. CSX is great for decals with little cartoon depictions on their locos. Some that I have seen are one for shutting down a hot engine, spitter valves and some fuel conservation decals. The "paint stick," is called a "tempilstick." I have a few of them in my grip. One end of the stick is used in cold weather and the other end is used in warm weather. You make a mark on the bearing cap with the appropriate end of the stick. If the crayon mark melts, then the bearing is overheated. <br />Ken
