I guess I would definitely fall into category 3 when it comes to railfanning. Funny thing is none of my friends or family have treated me differently or looked at me weird because of this hobby. As a child one might say I was a "foamer" because my whole bedroom looked like a shrine to the railroad industry past and present with a modest model train layout and pieces of railroad equipment such as lanterns and spikes. Then I hit adolesence and it all seemed a lot less interesting to me if you know what I mean, but I enjoy the hobby in moderation. I still have all that stuff because its worth a lot of $$$ now, but it's in storage.
