Contemporary Diesel Spotters Guide?

Good Morning,
I'm really struggling with discerning between/spotting the more recent EMD models and the same for recent GE's. For instance, from the GP-7's all the way up through the SD70's, its pretty easy to identify a paticular EMD model. It seems a lot more subtle now. There "seems" to be a lot more sub-variants and more of the identification that comes from what's inside the box, not what's visible on the outside. The same seems to go for GE in the last several years.
Anybody else struggling w/ that? Does anyone have any suggestions on either an on-line spotters guide.... or is Kalmbach current w/ their book?
Thx much,
- - Dblstack
