South Fork, Pennsylvania pictured in October Trains Mag

Just got my October Trains in the mail, and opened up to an interesting article on how NS is doing after the Conrail merger. What peaked my interest is the 2 page picture on the title page of the article. It shows an NS Westbound Freight heading past Ehrenfeld, Pa and into South Fork, Pa. What is significant to me, is that this very view belonged to my family for many years. My Paternal Grandparents owned a home right behind where this photographer was standing, for over 50 years up until the mid 1980's. I spent 2 months each Summer with my grandparents there as a child watching the action from Conrail all the way back to the end of the Pennsy. My Grandfather worked over in that Ehrenfeld Mine and helped make that big 'boney pile' pictured in the left background. My Great Grandfather ran that mainline as a Steam Engineer during the first half of the 20th Century. Charles Buchinsky, better known as the movie star Charles Bronson was born and raised in Ehrenfeld, Pa and worked in that mine before he became famous......The Bridge that the photographer is standing on, was built in the mid 1980's to replace an Iron Bridge that was in place about a half mile West of this spot in 'downtown South Fork'.....Before the new bridge was installed, the view from my family's house looking toward Ehrenfeld was unobstructed.....all in all, the pic brought back alot of fond memories. ...Dave, not too far from there my brother bought a new 1949 Ford convertible in Summerhill....and for the life of me I can't remember the dealreship's name....Wonder if it's still there....

I don't think its there anymore...I know that there was a used car dealer along Rte 53 heading through Summerhill, dont think that one is there anymore either. There is a longtime Ford Dealer still in South Fork, called 'Impala Motors' It always confused me as a kid when we'd come in to South Fork for a family visit in our 1965 Chevy Impala and see a 'Impala Ford' Dealership...apparently Impala is the family name of the owners....Dave Williams @ [e-mail]

Dave......That's the name...!!! Impala Motors, but it was in Summerhill 56 years ago.....A new car dealer....I don't know how he got over there to find it as we lived in Stoystown....but it was a Ford Dealership and of course a new car purchase.....Thanks for the response Dave....That's really interesting....
I will note...I am aware time can play tricks on memory but I seem so sure about it's location....

Yes, it's still there in South Fork....My Grandfather bought several vehicles off of him over the years....Impala Motors has been down in South Fork longer than I've been alive.....probably since the late 1950's at least....Dave Williams @ [e-mail]
