Need help identifying CN units
Posted by eolafan on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 7:58 PM
Tonight while enjoying my Subway sandwich in Slinger, WI I saw a CN train come through town with two identical units numbered CN 6900 and CN6936. Both had sub lettering under the cab windows WC (Wisconsin Central) but were in a very unfamiliar paint scheme of "battleship grey" with an orange stripe on the long hood. Anybody care to venture a guess as to the heritage of these two units?

They are former CN SD40 units rebuilt by Alstom and leased back to CN.

WC 6900 is Ex GCFX 6030
WC 6936 is Ex GCFX 6066.

I got a few photos of GCFX 6066 during Dec. of 2004

CN bought 50 SD40-3s(6030-6079) from GEC Alstom and are renumbering them consecutively to WC 6900-6949.These units were built as CN SD40s and later rebuilt by GEC to SD40-3s.There was only few renumbered last year but CN has started to pick up the pace.

CN's bought these to replace the WC SD45s.
