Burlington Northern was the surviving corporation in the BNSF merger, but the active management at the top levels was primarily from ATSF. This may be the source of confusion.

That particular graphic device looks more like a "splinter" to me, or maybe a wedge....

Ummmmm CN! Cn is doing better then BNSF you know.

I always thought that Santa Fe bought BN.Now I learned on the Classic Trains site it was the BN that bought Santa Fe. We are never too old to learn[:)].
I always liked the BN Tiger Stripe scheme.I did'nt think too much of the Whiteface scheme. This scheme sucks on high nose units[xx(]!
BN was about 5 or 6 on my list of favorite railroads. I was sorry to see it go[:(].

oh yes, Burlington Northern. i loved this company. i always assumed they merged with Santa Fe to save themselves from being bought out by the power-hungry Union Pacific. now that the merged company is bigger, they cant be bought out by the UP. but i liked BN because they were unique in locomotive colors. no other locomotive color sceme i have ever seen included green. i've stood only 2 feet away from one of these locomotives as it went past me at a somewhat high speed (Alma, Wisconsin. borders the Mississippi river. an average of 51 trains passes by the area every day). i miss them. but sometimes i see a BN locomotive on one of the trains there. but for the most part, it's all BNSF locomotives.

Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

I have always enjoyed the BN and the affiliated roads. In chicago, the BN'S racetrack main between chicago and aurora was a great place to watch trains...never a dull moment!

I guess this is more of a hot topic than I thought. Well at least now everyones opinion on the subject will be heard. Please don't hold any grudges against anyone else for their opinions. iam going to start a poll on the trains.com general forum so it will be easier to see the actual numbers of people who like or dislike BN.
Yes we call it the Dinky. Why? Well cause it's dinky! Proud to be the official train geek of Princeton University!

no other locomotive color sceme i have ever seen included green.

Illinois Terminal and Chicago & Illinois Midland both incorporated green, although they were not big railroads.

Now on the subject of BN-I have several memories. One of the most impressive sights as a six year old was being at Chicago Union Station and seeing the BN commuter trains waiting to leave. Of course growing up in St Louis I saw lots of BN green and it was always impressive. Later I went to college along the coal line from Burlington to W Quincy. Coal trains behind all shades of green. At least BNSF has taken the ICG approach to repainting and it is still possible to see BN and SF locos in their original paint, with a few touch ups. A pleasant relief from the UP that repaints anything that stops long enough to be painted.
