Deadly Train/Truck Crash in Wisconsin
Posted by kschmidt on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 5:39 PM
While at work today I was hearing reports of a train derailment in Clyman, Wisconsin. When I got home I saw the news and it appears that a Union Pacific train hit a semi-truck at a grade crossing in Clyman Junction, WI. According to the news the semi driver was killed. Also 4 UP crewmen were taken to Watertown hospital. From seeing footage on the Milwaukee local news it appears that the 3 locomotives and some of the cars in the train did derail, but it looks like they stayed upright. Apparently the crossing had stop signs, don't know about gates.

Here is a link to a story on the crash.

Could UP sue the trucking company for compensation for costs to repair the 3 units and cleanup of the derailment?
Looks like Darwin scores another one.

Like I said before some people are turely stupid when it comes to driving. You figure when you get trained to drive a school bus or even a haz mat truck they teach you how to stop at RR crossings maybe they should teach everybody that

Looked like the engines were allright and on their wheels- at least two of the three were CSX units, one being a Dash 8 and the other being SD70MAC #713. These two were trailing.

OC7SC2 was the train symbol- a potash covered hopper train from CSX in Chicago.

I just saw a news clip on ch 12 here in Milwaukee. Looks like the train shoved the truck throught the old coaling tower at Clyman Jct. No wonder the train derailed.

Last I heard, they weren't sure yet whether the semi stalled on the crossing, or if he just didn't see the train(or didn't bother to see the train) and went accross. And of course, for the second time just while I was typing this, I just missed the news footage by about a half a second. Oh well, maybe at the next update.

It seems that we have no shortage of brain-dead morons in this country who ignore the dangers of a railroad crossing and will proceed to cross a track without bothering to look in both directions to see whether or not a train is approaching. I have seen people driving their cars with their stereo systems turned all the way up to the point where they can not hear anything other than the crap they are listening to. And even if they could hear the warning of an air horn or crossing bells a lot of them would ignore it and try to beat the train to the crossing. And there have been cases where people who survive grade crossing collisions turn around and sue the railroad involved. Just absolute mindless stupidity!!!!!

One thing that wasn't mentioned in the news reports was that the truck was a UP truck hauling equipment for the rail project going on there. It isn't going to do the UP any good to try to sue anyone.
