Rode in a lightweight sleeper on the mixed train from Wichita Kansas to Herendon (spelling, got the name right?) where it was put on the back of CE, which became a Rio Grande train without any change of equipment or power at Pueblo. Porter forgot to wake me up on time and woke up to see the Colorado Springs station, got dressed in a hurray, notified the conductor who had the train stopped at the Palmer Lake tower. Went to the tower to first call the Boradmore Hotel to tell there where I was (they had someone to pick me up at the station) and then started to call a cab company, but the towerman said not to bother, he was going off duty soon and since he lived in Colorado Springs would drive me to the Broadmore. Quite an adventure! The whole business trip was American Airlines Boston to Chicago, Texas Chief to Wichita with my first exposure to a dome car, Mixed and Colorado Eagle to Colorado Springs. Joint train CS-Denver. CZ to Salt Lake City, and planes to Boise and back to Boston.
