Why Amtrak hasn't kept up with market share

Long distance passenger trains are obsolete for the most part because most people are not willing to pay enough to justify running them. It would be the same if a few people were demanding that we run long distance stage coaches. Few would pay enough to justify running them either. There is no reason taxpayers should pay to run passenger trains as a means of recreation for a few people. <br /> <br />One thing said that is correct is that there should be no subsidies for any means of transportation. Everyone should pay their own way. If people are not willing to pay their own way, then the service would probably not be offered and should not operated at taxpayer expense. <br /> <br />Larry
