UP's Bailey Yard
Posted by Junctionfan on Monday, May 9, 2005 11:52 AM
Is there any track plan out there on the internet I can check out?

I am curious on what kind of yards and track plans they have in order to have 2 humps in particular.

I know the yard is split up in 2; 1 for westbounds and 1 for eastbounds. How does this work? Is there hump staging for hump service engines to exchange cars in between humps for the odd car?

Also, does UP lease property to businesses within the yard? Do they sell storage space at their warehouses?

Back in the 90's Trains did a huge spread on Union Pacific. The specific magazine date escapes me, but it featured a train running from Omaha to Bailey. It was one of the best issues put out.

Details were given on the makeup of the train...the cars, including origin/destination; the dispatching, the MOW, and Bailey Yard.

There was a detailed diagram of the yard. I believe it was in the mid 90's.

Perhaps someone can be more specific.

BTW, after cataloging my Trains from 1960 to present...is there a complete on line index for the magazines. I noticed the index only went back a few years.

They go pretty far back. I use it to check mine back to the 50's, though I have only a few pre-1970

The magazine is november 1995. I have it and will pull it also.

Pacific Rail News also had an article in the April 1991 issue.

I just noticed that the UP has set all the yard maps in the "customer" area and so you can't see them unless you have a customer or employee login ID and password.

Bummer.

Did you get my E-mail? I hope so otherwise you must think I'm rude for not thanking you for your troubles.

Just in case, thankyou. No rush by the way. I am working on mainlines right now.[:)]

Yes I did, but real life things have taken over my evenings. I apoligize for the delay. If not tonight, I will tomarrow. BTW, of course I could not find the Nov 1995 issue, but I did find the PRN one. I found the newer baily diagram and a couple of other things.
