Where is Chigger yard mentioned on P-49 in the current issue. I would say it was Argentine {KC} I worked at Argentine ]in the late 70's but that yard has changed dramatically. Bill Bowen Ret.

Either poor writing or editing. I was wondering the same thing also. Why mention something briefly in a photo captian (sp) without further mention as to where it is.

Now, before anyone jumps on me regarding my writing skills...hey I acknowledge I dont know how to spell captian...but i would certainly hope we could expect the basics. Otherwise, it was a good article.

I have seen the engine and passenger car in question along I-35 in Overland Park / Olathe KS between 95th and 135th St. That is an area where the engine and car were often parked with short lines of box cars and hopper cars bound for the industrial area just to the west of I-35. Maybe that is Chigger yard.

I really was not all that impressed with the article in general. Seems like it was full of hype more than anything. Up till nowI have never heard of Chigger yd and I worked at KC in 1998-1999. The photo on p. 48, the water tower looks familiar but I can't place it. I'm going to KC in May to see a Royals baseball game, may have to do some snooping.

You can see the water tower off of I-35 and Sante Fe in Olathe, it actually sits on Kansas City road which parallels I-35. In my opinion to say that it is a "yard" is questionable, I never saw anything other than switching the industrial area and the training that the article mentions. I do agree that the article is not very well written or detailed. It was kind of a disappointment.

Chigger yard is off of 108th & Lackman in Olathe, KS.It is/was where Johnson County Community College/NARS students get hands-on training.JCCC has a couple of passenger cars there that are used as classrooms...the yard is currently still used by a couple of industries...has three tracks,double-ended,as opposed to being a stub yard.I was recently there for about a week and a half while attending the six-week conductor training course...
Don't worry,it's not supposed to make sense...
