Was just wondering if someone here had been there and could name the place, which is somewhere out west!

No, its not Espee's Donner pass line. But good guess seeing how I don't live to far from that rail crossing.

...And I too have no answer where it is but looks to be in the northwest and what seems evident is it's working up a pretty stiff grade....

Yes, the third unit back was a UP unit - a GE dash something. Notice there is no speed lettering on the Espee units.

I stated it wasn't Donner, Its obvious that its not something from southern California, it certainly isn't from the Feather River...or is it? It couldn't be from Washington state. Maybe this scene is from somewhere in Oregon.

I'll say between Cascade Locks and Multnomah Falls on the OSL into Portland.

I have a tape my son sent me of the FRC made by Trains magazine & I do not recollect on that tape much trees. More rock & honeymoon tunnels than trees. Also that FRC tape does not show any grades like the pix appears to depicit. [:p][:)][:o)]

I think the grade is an illusion myself. My guess is along the UP line into Portland from the east. Its along the columbia river and Basicaly totaly flat. (just a guess)

I take that all back.

After taking a close look at the picture I think its in the Oregon Cascades on the ex SP. Mabee Odell Lake.

As should most tapes covering the FRC (Feather River Canyon), show the action in the canyon. But just east of Keddie is Quincy, California - home to this last large log mill in the region. Here is a photo of its most current locomotive, note the trees in the background!

But, the "Just One More WHERE-IZ-IT," is not in California, it an't Washington, so I guess it must be Oregon with trees like that! How many SP routes through Oregon are there???

Chad,

I'm feeling warm and fuzzy here! Big hint: West of that divide, but east of an Oregon town called Oakhill - no, just joking, east of Oakridge, Ore.

SP east, or Real east ?

When I first glanced at the photo I thought it was in the Columbia river george because of the Mt. in the background. It was only after stareing at the pix for a few minuets that I realized this had to be SP in the cascades. The only place I could figure where the open meadow would be is near the top. Thus the Odell Lake (or is it Crescent lake?) guess.

I've been over 58 many times but only a couple during daylight hours. I've also ridden Amtrak through there. Its beautifull scenery till Eugene, then its blaaa to me. So I prefer to travel 97 through oregon.

Yep the tape spends a few minutes on the QRR. Without looking at it I think it said they have 3 switchers & that from the interchange point with UPRR they have a tough grade back to Quincy. If you want I will be happy to tell what locos had of the time of the tape by watching the tape again. [:o)][:D][:)]

If the place is in the Casades then I get some kudos for the S line comment right? [:p][:)]

No trick stuff here, its (compose) east of Oakridge and (compose) west of Cresent Lakes, besides, how tricky would it be if it was the obosist of that!

Now, you are down to I've been there, or I've seen a photo from there....

....I believe there is a grade above level in that pic....It has 4 engines on the point for some good reason. Note the camera was held close to flat by comparing the vertical post holding the signal....

The train in question also had a 4 unit mid train helper set. And as it passed into view, the conductor was pissin in the wind, guess he didn't like the toilet of the lead helper!

Regardless of grade, its still between Oakridge and Cresent Lakses, Oregon.
