scanner frequencies

Thanks to all who answered my questions on scanners. Now that I have one, and will be taking your advice about the longer antenna, I am planning a trip out west (Neb., Col., Wym.,etc.) and need to know what frequencies to program into my scanner. I am interested in BNSF, UP, AMtrak, etc.

Go to www.trainweb.com type in railradio in the search box click the first site and you will get all the freg;s you need. I had an antenna cut for me at Smiley Antennas works great I am not sure of their web site try their name.com I will try to find the site. Good luck!! Jack M

Altamont Press publishs timetables/maps/frequency books for different regions of the country. I guess you might be interested in the "Mountain Plains Region Timetable 4" edition. See http://www.altamontpress.com/catalog/timetables.html

Kalmbach publishes the "Compendium of Railroad Radio Frequencies". Mine was $18.95. The 15th Edition covered the BNSF merger, but does not seem to cover the Conrail/NS/CSX combination. I don't know if there is a more recent update. This is a good book to have if you travel a lot, but might be a little pricey if you are only looking for a few local frequencies. Ron H.
