Ge had a diesel hybrid prototype (#2010) in 2007. The expexted to market the locomotive from 2010: <a href="http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/single-view/view/ge-unveils-hybrid-locomotive.html">http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/single-view/view/ge-unveils-hybrid-locomotive.html</a> GE estimated a fuel reduction of 10%. With relatively low fuel prices it looks like the reduction didn't warrant the additional costs for the hybrid system.
