CN winter operatig plan
Posted by blue streak 1 on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 4:49 PM

A comprehensive plan that has a lot of good information.

1.  Plans keep DC locos away from snow.

2.   10  Autonomous traffic inspection program ( ATIP ) cars.  They can detect traffic defect.  One item is  that they can detect ice jacking that occurrs betwee 0 and - 7 C  )32 - ~19 F  have not heard of that before.  Wonder if any will be used in the US especially on the border to about MEM.

3.  Maps of where various rack improvement including a couple of connecting sidings to make sections of 2 main track.

4.  Train length limits due to cold weather ( -25 C and below ) both with DPUs and air cars ( 100 ).  Very restrictive.  One visit I had was a  -44C at Calgary airport.

5.  Would expect that CN will not post 2023 iprovement plans until this winter's choke points happen.

6.  A very pointed swipe at the US class 1s not returning emptys back to CN for reloading.

7.  Canada require this winter operating plan.  IMO the STB and FRA should require the same.

My experience with the CSX Winter Plan

1.  Pray for a early Spring.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
