I imagine this is going to cause a panic in some quarters.

"AHHHHH!!! What does Bill Gates know that WE don't know?"

Or maybe not.  Who can tell?

Well, I guess if he owns a large enough share of the company, it would be disadvantageous to him to try and dump it all at once. So, metering it out gradually makes sense.

I wonder if large shareholders ever blackmail the companies they have substantial holdings in?  eg "Buy my shares back from me at the current value, or I'll dump them"?

I'm almost certain that has happened, though the usual approach seems to be threatening a hostile take-over to force a stock buy back.

Who knows what Bill Gates will do with the funds?

I do know he has partnered with Berkshire Hathaway to build the first Natrium Reactor in Kemmerer Wyoming on the site of a coal plant that will be decommissioned.
