What company did the Union Pacific but that from, and what type of locomttive is that?

It cannot find it on UP's 01/01/2004 roster.

Its a B23-7 from the MP merger.

i saw the same type of number on a GP-15 while it was sitting in Troy Grove, IL a while back...Y729 or something similar. what's the Y stand for?! lol

Y=Yard

This is a separate number series for switchers and related units

Union Pacific established the UPY reporting mark during the general renumbering occasioned by the order of 1000 (since enlarged) SD70M's a few years back. They chose to establi***he UPY series for switchers, hump pushers, slugs, etc. rather than go to five-digit numbers.

UP bought it when they merged MP; they just painted it grey so everyone knows its a RCCL engine
