I don't come here and make unrelated political comments,

But you kind of did...

Anyhow, you did your percieved duty defending President Trump.  Have a diet coke to celebrate.

Nope, I REPLIED to someone else's comment, but hey, if you want to get a thread Locked/Deleted it's your choice. Keep the BS political statements out of the threads, and I wont reply to them, and just maybe the threads wont get L/D.

We'll all share the blame.  It's not like you HAVE to respond to them.  You choose to.  You have free will.

The ol' "defending the fandom" routine.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Better get it from McDonald's, support the President's favourite restaurant!

And while there he may as well order the "Trump Special" to go, that's 2 Big Macs, 2 Fillet-O-Fishes and a large chocolate shake.  I'm not kidding, seriously, look it up.

Trump eats that order in one sitting, but it could feed me for 3 days.

Note that this comment is not political, I am merely commenting on the President's dietary habits.

They also say he drinks 12 cans of diet coke a day.

Ick!

I'll give him credit.  His stomach and kidneys must be made of steel.

VOLKER LANDWEHR
In 2014 the NATO summit decided "that the NATO member states should aim to reach the guideline of 2% within the next 10 years". That would be 2024. This guidline is not legally binding as it was not implemented in the NATO treaty. Nevertheless the EU counties will rise their defence expenditures where necessary. Up to 2%? At least for Germany 1.5% to 1./% is more likely. The taxpayers see better uses for their money, e.g. handling a crisis before they evolve into wars.

Often overlooked in this question is this:  "According to a 2013 study the Rand Corp. prepared for the U.S. defense secretary’s office, Germany supports the U.S. troop presence through in-kind contributions such as land, free rent, infrastructure and construction, in addition to foregone customs duties and tax waivers. Basing its statistics on data from 2002, the study estimated that Germany offset about 33 percent of the costs of U.S. military personnel stationed there."

But the U.S. has a serious trade imbalance.  Last year it was in the neighborhood of $620 billion.  And numbers like these have been stacking up for years.  So, although it is a bit off topic, what can the railroads do to help fix the problem?

The dollars all come home as investment - quite a bit to finance gov't debt. So, it's really a tiny problem economically.  The way to fix it is to cut the budget deficit and get folks to save more.  We just did the opposite, so.....

In 2016, according to the IRS, 16.8 percent of Americans filing a federal income tax return - 150.5 million - had Adjusted Gross Income of more than $100,00.  They paid 80.2 percent of the personal federal income taxes in 2016.

I'm not sure I can agree with that math.

So, back to the original question...

All this trade craziness will disrupt supply chains in the short run and eventually lead to less efficient ones in the future.  This means less production of goods, overall, in the short and long term.  So, there will be less material for RRs to haul in any fashion, and what they haul may have different origins and destinations.

There will be very few winners, but a whole slew of losers....

The companies are already bringing production home to the USA already.  How do I know this materials that we used to have put in overseas containers and yes we did do that for our customers well we are now putting almost 60% of those same custom blends into OTR trailers or Domestic containers for delivery here in the USA.  That is in the last 19 months.  We have also been told by our same customers that in the next 4 years expect less than 10% of our blended stuff to go overseas as they bring home production.  Before I would say it was close to 60% by weight.

BTW, Trump WON by Election, accept it/get over it.

He won the electoral college, NOT the popular vote....but hey, what's a mere 2.9 million votes.

"Former" and "wannabe" are completely irrelevant.  Many of the current tactics, policies, and positions are unsupported by factual analysis.  It doesn't matter what anybody else in the same position did or might do.

A few facts abouot soybeans. We ship little to no food grade beans to Europe. There is a decent market for clear hilum food grade beans in Japan, and some to China. Those beans are an extremely small portion of our bean exports. The idea of "huge" increases in bean exports to Europe is political baloney, whether spoken by conservatives or liberals. Bean prices are down over 2 dollars/bushel because of loss of market share to China. Prices were over 10/bu. a few months ago, slid to a little over 8 and have recovered to close to 9. Fall cash prices are in the range of what I could get 20 years ago, and it costs a LOT more now to put in a crop. I will try to leave my political opinions in the same place as my opinions about Eurozone regulations.

Different people have different metabolisms.

Look at Phelps the Olympic Swimmer.   I was rather shocked at the absolute amount of junk food he ate while training.    Pizza's, twinkies, etc, etc.    Yet his doctor rates him in great health despite the junk food intake.

If you lug around a lot of body weight you burn more calories per day.   To maintain the weight if your fairly active you have to eat like a horse.

So back on topic, sort of........

1. What happened to the COAL pier BNSF wanted to build on the West Coast for Coal Exports?     Is that still moving forwards?    I think it was Oregon they wanted to build it in but I am not sure.

2. Also on the LNG terminal folks are just talking about building.......is that going in on the East Coast or Houston?   Just curious.

I believe Hillary won California and NY City by a combined total of around six million votes.     Our forefathers had enough sense to  come up with a plan that results like that wouldn't create a situation where a few major population centers dominated national politics.    Anyway, the USA is a Constitutional Republic, not a pure democracy.    The Constitution says how its done and whether you like it or not, that's the law.      Personally, I prefer the original suggest that each state would have one vote and a majority of the states would be needed to be president.    I'd even go further and say the voting should be by counties and the candidate winning a majority of the counties wins the state.  That way those that live in rural areas wounldn't be dismissed out of hand like they are now in so many of the states.

You should stick to the discussion of trains, your not going to change any opinions here.   So A for effort but.....you should realize it is falling on deaf ears.    I can tell you from personal experience.   I had to laugh at the guy earlier who tried to explain Economics and how Tarriffs work, he was basically correct but nobody is listening here.   Ha-ha.....in one ear and out the other.   Then the other guy that got Putins former Military rank wrong along with his inferred branch of the KGB.

Best to keep the discussion to Trains, don't throw good after bad, as hopefully your Parents used to say.    Be happy that we don't elect everyone that's involved in managing the Economy, thank goodness.    You can just imagine what a mess it would be otherwise.
