A DPU IS A LOCOMOTIVE THAT IS USED AS A PUSHER OR AN EXTRA SOURCE OF POWER FOR THE TRAIN AND IS A GREAT USE FOR BRAKING, AND IN MOST CASES THE DPU CAN BE USEFULL WHEN THE TRAIN CREW DOES'T HAVE THE TIME TO CONSTANTLY CHANGE THE POWER AROUND IN THE SWITCH YARDS.
A DPU IN PUT IS A UN-MANED LOCOMOTIVE THAT IS CONTROLLED BY THE LEAD LOCOMOTIVE BY MEANS OF RADIO COMUNICATION,ONCE THE ENGINEER NOTCHES HIS THROTTLE IN THE CAB OF THE LEAD UNIT, AT THE SAME TIME THE REAR UNIT QUICKLY RESPONDS TO THE LEAD UNIT AS IF THAY WERE COUPLED TOGETHER AS ONE UNIT TRAIN.
[bow]BNSF[bow]
