I drove past the LIRC shops that are visible from I-65 in Jeffersonville and I noticed sitting there was an interesting looking unit.
It was a black loco in SP Black Widow paint, and it had it's engine, I believe completely removed. I think it was numbered #1009. Does anyone know who this unit belongs to or its history?

that is LIRC GP9 #103, former Pacific Harbor Lines #103. Prior to that it was Central Railroad of Indiana #3846, TDIX #3846, Southern Pacific #3846, SP #3655 and originally TNO #451. Anyhow, this unit was sent to the Louisville & Indiana RR by sister road Pacific Harbor Lines following its retirement and replacement by newer low emissions units. Originally this unit was undergoing conversion to a Road Slug with work being done as time permitted but as far as I now those plans have been shelved. It has spent the last 5+ years stored out back behind the shops awaiting an uncertain future.
Back in the early 2000's LIRC actually prepped this unit for the PHL, chopping the highnose and painting the unit.
Here is a link to a photo of the unit in question, this was taken by myself during August 2009 when being stripped of most mechanical parts. Its in this same condition today.
