Does anyone know if the BNSF switch engines in Clinton, IA that work the ADM Plant are based in Clinton or are they based in Barstow, Il and reach Clinton over IC & E trackage rights from the Barstow/Quad Ciites area to Clinton?
It's been a year or so since I looked closely. At that point there was a fenced in track near S 11th Ave and S 2nd street that the BNSF switch engines were kept when not in use.
My understanding is that the track from Clinton to the Quad Cities is still owned by the Davenport Rock Island and Northwestern (DRI Line). These days the DRI is essentially a paper railroad owned by the the BNSF and CP, who took over the ICE.

You still have one GP-38 based at Clinton.
DRI is no more and is now the domain of CP(ICE) with BNSF trackage rights. Trackage in Clinton is a little of a wild card with ownership of some track in a grey area after CRIP's island at Clinton and ADM's track changes created uncertainties. (Ironically is worst where the switch engine lays over between the Union Depot and the river and is also very strange around the ADM plant...The odd chop nosed ex-CNW Geep with no short nose is still there)
The area was a depressed mess for years and now is a focused redevelopment area, making ownership and switching an issue that didn't use to be.
