Wow! Windows 10 is coming! But …
Since Apple killed off the TRAINS back issues library, and Mac users have trouble posting photos, might Microsoft’s Windows 10 kill off access to the TRAINS forums completely seeing that the forums use is so screwy now anyway?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- K.P.’s absolute “theorem” from early, early childhood that he has seen over and over and over again: Those that CAUSE a problem in the first place will act the most violently if questioned or exposed.
I'd have to believe that the folks who wrote the forum software (undoubtedly a third party vendor) are aware of the upcoming release. Whether they can make adjustments to the current software, or this will require a completely new platform remains to be seen.
If it requires a completely new platform, I suppose it will come down to the economics - is it worth it to Kalmbach to upgrade?
Have you ever noticed that every new version of a given software usually takes away something you use all of the time, and adds almost nothing to the usability of the software?

Are you certain that the problem with the back issues collection is actually caused by decisions made at Apple, or have the Kalmbach I.T. people just jumped in bed with Redmond, employing standards tailored to "work with windows" that Apple could not work with? Wouldn't be the first time Microbrains leveraged their position through black-bag tactics.
With the way things are, the last thing I would be worried about is Kalmbach's web presence being incompatible with the next iteration of Windows. Lazy I.T. departments are like sheep, they like to be led, and Microsoft is only too happy to accomodate.
It would just be too bad if all these stupid ad panels refused to open under windows 10. What do you think the chances of THAT happening are?
And to think I used to wonder what the phrase "Too smart for their own good!" used to mean.
The past few decades have been LOADED with real-world examples.
"forums use is so screwy now"
Describes my postings here perfectly...

All the forum needs is a reasoanbly good browser - for quite a number of years I was reading and posting using Mozilla/Firefox on Solaris 10.
I'm avoiding the upgrade to "Yosemite" precisely because of the back issues library problem. Would be nice to know exactly what killed the library...

I see only two ad panels, one at the top right, and another at the bottom of the entire forum. All are for Trains/Kalmbach.

The forum operation has been screwy since the day I joined over 10 years ago!
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Yes, the small Kalmbach IT staff are likely MicroSheeple that refuse to evaluate alternatives, OR .... perhaps they wanted a forum solution that had common customer authentication with their other online applications. Back to the topic ....
This is being posted using the PaleMoon browser on Windows 10 'insider' edition. If you decide to upgrade to Win10, be sure your computer has at least 4GB of RAM; fanbois think Win10 is 'light' but this Linux user views it as typically MS P-P-Porky.
So far, no incompatibilities detected .....

Well, yanno? I multi-boot on my rig, have for 20+ years. And one of my primary partitions have always been Windows, not for preference...just to assure compatibility. Though I loathe their bloatware, everyone seems to write for it, so it has it's place.
That doesn't mean that I have to respect sheeple who proliferate the warped standards that Redmond authors . I consider it more of a "work around" .
K.P.,
I have a boatload of pix to upload the day they finally fix their issues with Apple operating systems.

I get messages to update Windows 8 to Windows 10 for free. Having been down this road with MS before and resolving the results has me gun shy.
I have run old single core machines on Linux Ubuntu. The Ubuntu updates created far fewer issues the Microsoft. Ubuntu web forums got me through any patches quickly.
I am no computer expert. Is Windows 8 to 10 free cheese in a mouse trap?
I use a Unix based operating system and Firefox. I do not and never will have any problems iwth the trains forums. I spent 45 years in all phases of the IT industry form operator to manager and used all operating systems ever produced. It is Microsofts problem not trains. Trains has to adapt the forums for lthe Microsoft platform. That is where the problem is.
