Several hundred thousand dollars - probably close to 500K by the time the equipment is operations.

Even the hydraulic switch machines are not cheap and tend to cost more than the package turnouts they go with. (running barb in the track maintenance community is that anything signal related is gold plated)

Not to mention the 'future profit opportunity' that always seems to be handed to the signal equipment manufacturers and maintainers. Having watched the UP Sunset Route 2MT effort for five years, I'm amazed and perplexed why equipment cabinets have always been placed where the second main track will go .... Confused

Another question, how much would it cost to weld 1 mile of track inckuding labor costs?
