Well, as my friend (also a respected photographer) said, "RailPictures.net is where I go to see the best of the best", and I agree. No offence to everyone who takes photos out there, but most of you shoot to shoot, with no consideration of lighting, angle, perspective, and sometimes, even your own artistic tastes. Photographers take these factors into each photo they shoot, whenever possible. I have over 70 shots on RP.net now, and I will give you all some tips to get your shots accepted.

Note the position of the sun, and if possible always try to stay on what will be the "sunny side" of the train. If it's an overcast day, if you can, your best bet is to shoot in black & white.

Don't always go for that "classic" wedgie shot, get inventive, if you have a zoom lens (optical, not digital zoom), USE IT! If you don't have a zoom on your camera, try a low angle, or a bridge shot on for size. Don't be afraid to try new things.

ALWAYS avoid any kind of foreground obstructions, such as brush, high weeds, a tree branch, etc. basically anything that really hinders a clear shot of the train. It's a good way to get your shot rejected real quick (I know from expierence). One exception however, would be if your train is creeping through high weeds.

For night shots, hey, to each his own. If the screener likes what he sees, then you get in, if not, then oh well. Your best bet for night exposures is to get 'artistic.'

Also, if you shoot prints, get a good scanner

Those are just some tips for better photos, you will tend to develop your own style of photography over time, as you learn the trade.
