Setting Handbrakes to Secure a Train

<p><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva;font-size:small;">Here is the TSB of Canada report on the QNS&L ore train that ran away after the engineer secured it with handbrakes. This is the runaway mentioned in the article I linked to the original post of this thread. The train ran away for 15 miles and attained 63 mph, but stopped without derailing or injuring anyone. </span></p> <p><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva;font-size:small;">It discusses a lot of detail about issues with the air brakes that ultimately culminated with the engineer dynamiting the train when it got out of control. Then he had to set lots of handbrakes. As he was walking back to the engine, the train started to roll before the reservoirs had time to charge. From there, the train ran away.
