The only failure of the striking train was the failure to stop short of the struck train which was made visible by its end-of-train device. </span></p> <p><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva;font-size:small;">At the time of the last recorded activity of the engineer of the striking train, the struck train was not yet in view of the striking train. </span></p> <p><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva;font-size:small;">It was <b><span style="text-decoration:underline;">1 minute 11 seconds</span></b> from the last recorded activity of the engineer of the striking train to the point where the struck train came into view of the striking train.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva;font-size:small;">Therefore, if the engineer of the striking train collided with the train ahead because he was asleep, he had <b><span style="text-decoration:underline;">1 minute 11 seconds</span></b> to fall asleep. </span></p>
