That looks like it replaced my "SIG" on the end, which is:

--------------------------------------------------------------

 Pkgs.

--------------------------------------------------------------

in a tiny font.

I didn't do anything extra when I set up my signature, and the last time I posted it showed in what I think is default font, but since only 2 of you ever showed up this past summer to go sailing maybe I should have made it bigger.

The weird page number menu's changed. Now if you're on any page above 4 it says

"<<First << 1 2 3 4" ... First and the page numbers seem to take you to the appropriate page, << seems to take you to the next to the last page. I guess the moderators will only announce a fix if it actually succeeds.

Please ignore.  For some time I have seen reports of problems activating links, and have NEVER had one not activate automatically until today.   I just wanted to try it here, and it worked OK.    ?

This was the one that didn't work.   They both worked in "Forum Testing."   Oh, well.

Apparently that's not due to an attempted fix, but rather due to the number of pages. On another thread that's only 5 pages the page number links show as "<<First << 0 -1 2 3", this thread's 7 pages.

FWIW the page numbering is still wonky for most topics that I look at.

OTOH given some major changes inflicted on me by Google today I will have to redouble my efforts to stay polite and civil in my posts.

Google has just converted my personal maps ("My Maps") to their new format. Fair warning - simple map navigation features may not work the same. Editing (for me) is painful as the spoiled children 'designers' have moved common controls to all four corners of the browser window - very bad for us mouse users.

These changes are 10x worse than the recent Kalmbach forum change. No doubt made to 'improve the user experience' of the Mobile Device Hipsters.  Grrrrr.

One thing I think I discovered!

You can't direct a NEW Personal Message in the new forum.  In the old forum, if you hovered your cursor over a persons ID you would get a drop down that offered you the opportunity to send the ID a PM.  Can't do it with the new forum.  In fact I haven't figured out how to send a new PM to anyone that I don't have an existing conversation with.

Click on the person's name just below their avitar. Then on the next screen click on send a private message.

I guess who I am trying to contact has his PM function set to Friends only or None.

If it's Firelock76, yes, he has PM and e-mail conversations turned off, perhaps only to some people (I am one if so.)

  Wish he didn't.

I don't have e-mail turned on as my e-mail is work-related and I try to keep the clutter to a minimum, it makes the job easier.  Even then I get trash e-mails from who-knows-where that annoy the heck out of me.

Anyone SHOULD be able to send me a message through the Forum message option, I haven't turned that one off, at least to my knowledge.  I'll check it.

Don't be shy folks, I'm a friendly soul, I don't bite and I'll talk to anyone.

OK, I checked and set "Conversations" to "All Users."  Have fun everyone!

Elsewhere someone pointed out a really stupid omission - the Search Community function in the right hand column is now gone. The field is still there on the older format pages including the top forum page:

http://cs.trains.com/trc/f/default.aspx

Hey mods, please investigate. This feature took so little space - why was it removed? The trainsmag.com Search on the Big Black Bar does not search the forums.

If you don't want to use the above function, you can do something similar in Google Search by prefixing text keywords with site:cs.trains.com .

What about that little magnifying glass icon on the extreme right of that infernal black banner (that drops down the HUGE menus when the mouse rolls over the words)?

Does that do what you want?

It doesn't search the Forums - it searches the Magazine.

Not what I want a SEARCH function on the forum to do.

Rich format text test - this is the default.

This should be Courier, very useful for ad-hoc track diagrams.

Looking good after the post?

It doesn't search the Forums - it searches the Magazine. Not what I want a SEARCH function on the forum to do.

I just realized that the trains.com forum (the one we're 'not' supposed to go to) hasn't yet felt the lash of novelty... and still has a functional forum-search box.  I just tested it a couple of minutes ago and it seems to find recent posts just fine.

Here's the direct link, with the search term 'crossing' loaded

(I couldn't save the URL without a search term included).  At least this gets you to where you can type your own term and get results.

Stumbled into another problem.  If forum is blown up too much cannot edit a quote or add comment. Often blown up to 175% and will not work.  eyesight getting too near sighted.

Let’s see if this works with problems …

Doesn't work the second time!

Back to square one.

Firefox Test #3

TEST FAILED.

So, I used only a text file to post this.

Firefox acts the same way as Internet Explorer when copying from a WORD document, hence, is impractical.  The benefit of Internet Explorer is that there are controls that can be manipulated so that it becomes usable here at the forum.

Anybody know of any magic so Firebox can be used for posting at this website?

This sentence is in Times New Roman, 12 point–composed in WordPerfect.

However, the font did not carry over when I copied it to the forum, and I had to set my desired font and type size here. I will try something else: typing the name of the largest city in the province of Quebec--Montréal; it carry over, font and accent!

This posting is in Times New Roman, 12 point–composed in WordPerfect. Hmm--the font carried over this time. Perhaps I have to select the font desired before copying from WP? I did not select it here before the first attempt.

I still miss Spel Czech.

But, when I posted my reply, it went back to whatever font the creators of the system think is best.

The creators of the system need to reconsider what they have done.

I hate to wake up this old topic, but in order to test 'new' Photobucket image links on the 'new' Kalmbach forum format I have to post here. The Testing forum is the 'old' format and is also well hidden on the trains.com website. Here goes:

...

Looks like I lost the formula ..... Bang Head

Dang it, Kalmbach,

UPDATE THE TESTING FORUM NOW!

Update to test other link methods: http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u524/mf90000/atcsmon/atcsmon-yuma-east_zpsyaklujuh.jpg~original

Balt, some time back, I wanted to send a certain person a PM; I could not, and wondered why--perhaps you have the answer. Perhaps that person had had all sorts of others sending him PM's, and he was tired of being pestered?

I believe one can 'opt in' or 'opt out' of receiving PM's.
