Good Morning all! Good day to just stay in AC and hang out in Diner with friends. Smoothies are going to be a hot item today CW ( sorry bout the pun ) Maybe fresh strawberry margaritas? The blender is going to be smokin' today.
[soapbox] - Hope to not ruffle feathers or fur. Music is such a commentary on a specific time in our society. The 50's and early 60's the music was about love and happiness, finding a girlfriend/boyfriend and generally happy. So were the times. The leave it to Beaver era. Late 60's early70's were about social upheaval (The song For What it's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield we were quoting a while back). The late 70's (disco) and early 80's were the "ME" era, all about me and overindulgence. Still not about happiness ( Gloria Gaynors " I Will Survive" ). Then the late 80's early 90's we went back to girlfriend/boyfriend but still with overindulgence. Trust me on this one [:-^]
(My heyday) Then in 90's along came grunge. The "I'm so angry at the world, am blaming my parents for everything that's wrong with me (instead of taking the blame myself). Note the popularity of the Jerry Springer type talk shows in the mid to late 90's.
I have to listen to some of this new stuff as I DJ on the side and must stay current on popular stuff. It makes me sick!!! All about death, unhappiness and hating my parents. Don't even let me start about Rap!
This is the reason the band doesn't play any music newer than 90. Life is too short to be ***ing all the time about stuff we have no control on. Let's just have fun and try to be happy, but unfortunately the record producers just stick to what is popular and makes them a boatload of money. Country music is the same, hence the Gretchen Wilson craze and all the resulting clones that are popping up. Pop music is the same, all the Britney Spears clones.
tree- yes that is the case, a vast majority of songs today are remakes. Not enough good songwriters out there and most song patterns and subjects have been covered. Little known factoid for around the water cooler. Every single chord pattern combination has already been put together. Beethoven did it! In his symphonies, he used every single chord combination possible, so see basically no NEW music patterns have been written since. To think Beethoven wrote the chord pattern to "Born to Be Wild" is scary.
Anyway, it's getting hot up here by the ceiling on my soapbox. I just wish we could go back to simpler times and happy music, and not have to worry about tommorrow.
Everybody stay [8D] It'll be hot in the beer tent tonight! Already 93 in the arbor! Willy
