This is a preliminary report only. As of 1730 local news helicopter showed a NS FREIGHT had a pickup truck wedged under a white tank car with placard. This is near Norcross ga NE of atlanta on 2 MT location ( train is on north track ). at least one dead and more serious injuries. ( life flight on way ). a pan shot did not show locos at least 20 cars each way so unknown direction of train travel. US 29 is close to tracks on south side of tracks with a local road close to tracks on north side of tracks. pickup truck appeared to be traveling north to south. Pickup about 300 ft NE of one crossing and 800 ft ne of another.
update #1 pickup now appears not to be wedged under tank car
update #2 ------
It gets much more interesting.
The pickup truck and a black mini van had a collision on the grade crossing. Instead of people in these 2 autos VACATING the people stayed in the autos. a Gwinette county police officer arrived upon the accident and immediately began removing all persons. about that time the NS freight came along and the officer got one more person out and then train hit the 2 cars. Officer was only scratched and deserves a bravery award IMHO. POSSIBLY ONE PERSON IN ONE OF THE VEHICLES DID NOT GET OUT AND WAS KILLED ??
The pickup was carried along the tracks and the mini van was wedged under a train car and caught fire. have not seen a picture of the mini van.
News reports don't seem to be giving much detail, but at least one does say there was an accident before the train got there. The others just say a train hit a car.
Based on shadows in an image from one news site, the train was north/east bound. The accident was reported as here: N 33.92377 W 84.25139.
