I was wondering, how different was railroad operations in the 70's compared to todays operations. I know with mergers and railroads consolidating jobs that there are fewer workers(except the UP) but is there more or less trains operating today than 30 years ago? Thanks for any input.[:)]

On heavy-duty main lines, there are more trains than before. Check out the comparison table in the BNSF Reborn article in the current issue of Trains.
