SPENT TIME GETTING GOOD PHOTOS OF YARD OPPERATIONS  OFF  YARD OVERPASSES.  FIRST WAS THE HIGHWAY OVER THE     EX   CE,I    NOW UP IN DOLTON IL.     LOTS OF TRAFFIC   DANGEROUS TO CROSS TO OTHERSIDE.   LEAVE CHILDREN AND OLDER ADULTS AT HOME.  BUT IM YOUNG AND CRAZY AND CROSSED.Stick out tongue         NEXT WAS OVER TO IHB RIVERDALE ..COULD GET PIX OF NEW GENSETS AND OTHER POWER DONT SEE .    PIX OF YARD AND TOWERS . 3RD WAS  CSX BARR YARD ALSO HAD NEW GEN SETS AND YARD FEATURES ......  PROVISO,   BENSENVILLE, HAS A NEW BRIDGE OVER EX CMSPP RR.   WEST A NEW UP CNW BRIDGE  FLOWS WEST TO MAKE ROOM FOR HUGE ADDITION OF RUNWAY AT OHARE AIRPORT........CLINTON IA AT WEST END ALSO IS A CREW CHANGE BELOW YOU ON UP RR.......  LAST IS GALESBURG IL    BNSF  IS SAFFEST OF ALL..... AND MOST PICTUR  PERFECT...   THIS IS AGAIN ADANGEROUS TASK  AND AM NOT PROMOTING IT UNLESS YOU ARE CRAZY LIKE ME.     BE CARE FULL OF ROUGH NEIGHBORHOODS AROUND YARDS.  I NEVER GO OUT AT NIGHT AT AREAS IN CHICAGO OR DECATUR ILL. SAFE

You really have to know the area well.  While many yards are in rough neighborhoods, a fair number are not.  The Sibley Blvd overpass at Yard Center is good, so is Halsted Street over CSX Barr and IHB Blue Island.  I would also recommend Cicero Ave over BRC Clearing and Roosevelt Road or 18th St over the Chicago Union Station approaches.  Crossing from one side to the other is always risky since almost all overpasses have high vehicular traffic.  If you can find a way to cross under the overpass, I would recommend that.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
