Typan, if you really want to compare between manufactures, with power/fuel consumption/reliability, and performance, If you are a shortline operator, I'd suggest an Alco. My experience so far, has been with the "539" prime mover. You just can't kill 'em! Fuel consumption rate is about 75% of comparable 2 cycle diesels, and the block itself is practically "bulletproof"! <br /> Fuel line problems are the biggest draw-back to the 539 units. When the temp dips below freezing, an idling unit will slowly die. The first thingt to happen is the filters waxing up.
