Trivia question:
Posted by MLG4812 on Friday, December 3, 2010 10:50 PM

Greetings,

Have a question about shipping containers:

1.) What year was the first 40' High Cube shipping container introduced?

2.) Who was the shipping company that introduced it?

Okay, okay. It's really because I can't find this information myself and hoped one of you all out there knew. I've found other years for other sizes but I can't seem to find much info on this container anywhere. Maybe the ISO site??

Review or join the Yahoo! "modelintermodal" group at -

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/modelintermodal/

Despite the title, it's equally about prototype equipment:

Description

The modelintermodal list is for modelers and enthusiasts of intermodal transport of any era. Both prototype and modeling issues are discussed.

The subject matter includes trailers, containers, railroad intermodal rolling stock, intermodal freight cars, railroad and port (marine) intermodal operations, intermodal terminal design, intermodal facility equipment, TTX, Trailer Train, RoadRailers, container ships, and any other topic generally related to intermodal transport.

I've seen some very learned discussions about nuances of equipment that I never thought about before. I guarantee that someone there will have the answer.

I see you joined, and are well on the way towards getting a definitive answer . . . Smile, Wink & Grin

Someone there - most likely a fellow from Canada whose name I can't remember right now - eventually will be able to cite you chapter-and-verse on those questions - just give it a little more time.

I think it was in 1982 by Pacer Stacktrain. I read somwhere in a Kato advertisement that they were "the pioneer of Intermodal" however, the first real intermodal shipping method by rail was Flexi-van.
