The latest round of our biweekly photo competition, Trackside with Trains.com, is live. Five photographers submitted images for the theme "Tangent track." This round's reader submission comes from Tyler Trahan of Worcester, Massachusetts.

Three of the five shots are the same thing with just different colored paint on the noses. One seems vaguely familiar and the third is the most different and that is reader submission from tyler Trahan. Tyler got my vote.
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.

Third - no link to this discussion from the new format Trackside page STILL? Is this a conscious decision by the editorial staff or merely an oversight?
This is getting confusing. For the past several editions I have been unable to find the comment page for the pictures. And now . . . I can't find the pictures! This is probably some conspiracy by the airline industry . . . Just because they have wings they think they know everything . . .

I had no problems with the page or the images. Tom's image literally jumped out and captured my vote. The others, except for Tyler's, will probably get votes based on the viewer's personal paint-scheme preference.
@Tyler--I'll bet that for its first twenty years, the "iconic" sign read "Cities Service" instead of "Citgo".

OK, so how are you folks getting to the pictures? Every time I punch in I get a "Page not found" notice from the Trains site!
Neither a conscious decision nor an oversight. Just need to find the right place to put it in our behind the scenes system. Don't worry, we'll get it there.

Tom, I'll echo sentiments that your submission is a work of art as much as it is a photograph! That New Haven paint sure looks good on those GP40s - historic and classy at the same time.

You are correct - the first sign in that location had the Cities Service trefoil logo, which was replaced in 1965 with the trimark logo.

I had to study for a while.....Really was looking for more of a distance view of tangent track....{Across a desert, etc...}, but trying to judge available shots, I finally settled on Drew's rendition of the CN head on tele view with pretty colors and nice clean ROW. Could take or leave the heat distortion from the exhaust stacks.

Toss up between Tom and Tyler...went with Tom for the art aspect, but Tyler's was full of very intersting details...hope to see more of his shots.

Tom's photo was cool, but Ken's clear shot caught my eye right away, especially since you can see the helper at the far end.
Guess Alex couldn't find a long enough tangent here in the East?? Too many curves?

Chose Tom Nanos' image as it was different from the other 4. Agreed, one was from a higher than usual vantage point, but it was still looking down the straight (or should that be "tangent" :) track.
Tom's image is closer to the action & from that vantage point of someone on a locomotive.
