Train watching West Springfield MA
Posted by richg1998 on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 12:25 PM

The fellow that runs a hot dog stand near the train watching spot few days ago saw a freight come by with one car that had a locked up truck on one end. The brakes froze. He contacted the yardmaster nearby and the freight was stopped. Car disconnected. Freight moved on and the car was dragged back to the yard. Yard master told car knocker to buy hot dogs from this guy.

I stopped there today for lunch. He keeps a scanner handy.
The car knocker did stop by and order hot dogs.
I just missed and east bound and west bound.

The video ends up looking east toward the CSX yard which is about 3/4 miles away. The former West Springfield  railroad station is in the video.

Reading Classics Trains 2010 with stand owner nearby.

Neat story.  The YM seems like an honorable guy, 'doing right' by the hot dog stand owner - not like the stereotypical TM.   Thumbs Up

So what we have here is a train-watching spot, with a hot dog stand handy - even my wife would like that, as long as he has relish ! - complete with a scanner, and some knowledge of the traffic - What's not to like about that one !

By the way - how was the dog Smile,Wink, & Grin

Thanks for sharing.  Bow

I have his chili cheese dogs. Very good. He has all the condiments and a “secret” sauce.

11am to about 3pm when school is out. Rest of the year, about 11 am to 1pm. He drives school buses.

This fellow is in a club I belong to. The club meets once a week.

Went back today for a while. I was standing right in front of the hot dog stand.
Saw one freight. I was hoping to see a UPS Priority freight but not today.
There was a trash train passing just before I got to the site. Had to wait for train to finish passing.
Sometimes there are a couple locos pulling as many as 90 empty cars for carrying motor vehicles. Many of the rolling stock are UP labeled  heading West.
Not as many heading East when loaded.
