VIA LRC's-what happened?
Posted by THayman on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 7:10 AM
When VIA Rail retired it's LRC locomotives, what happened to them? Were they scrapped, or were they sold or stored somewhere? I know VIA doesn't use them, but I thought someone else might have taken them. And what about LRC's elsewhere? I heard Amtrack had a few. What happened to them?

There's a bunch of LRC power cars at Industrial Rail Services Inc (IRSI) - the former CN diesel shop in Moncton NB. They landed there the first week of May in a special VIA "hospital train" movement. I'm not certain what IRSI intends to do with them - they're not in very good shape - stored LRC power cars were cannibalized to repair the remaining units as time went by.

The LRC cars are still in service in the Montreal to Windsor corridor behind F40PH's and P42DC's.

Amtrak's LRC's are long gone. They may have even gone to VIA.
