BNSF Christmas Train in Cajon Pass

For those who are interested in last week's BNSF X-Mas train run on Cajon Pass, here are some images from the day...

 

First is of the train sitting at San Bernardino station, with a Metrolink watching over it.

Second is of the San Bernardino station in full (which was restored quite nicely a few years back).

Third, back in the station, a Union Pacific intermodal passes the X-mas train.

Fourth, we are all the way up on Summit, watching the train slow to a stop before switching end for to make the run back down to SB.

Fifth, is at Mormon Rocks, where the train heads back down Cajon Pass.

Please see the 2nd photo from the top of the web page. It is a little hard to see but the north-bound special train which you are saying can be seen. This view was taken at Drawbar Flat toward around Mormon rocks in Cajon pass, last Saturday morning. At this moment, a BNSF north-bound double-stack has been overtaken, which can be seen in front of the photo. The overtaking was immediate, because of the speed difference.

Charles, I saw this train too, only it had stopped briefly at the small Victorville station when I was coming home from shopping just the other day. I pulled into the lot, got out and talked with several folks who had gotten off the train to stretch their legs. They were on the way back to San Bernardino and eventually back to Kansas where the train originated. I was not aware that BNSF offered this holiday train, but it's what a wonderful thing for disabled kids and veterans. Too bad I did not have my camera with me. It would be cool if they had a full length "big" dome car hooked up too. Thanks for the great pics! John in Apple Valley.
