I'm working the night shift on both Christmas Eve and Day, it has been very quiet on both nights. Hardly anyone on the streets of Nelson B.C. except cabs and cops.Captain It will make up for it tomorrow on Boxing Day as several will be drinking the holidays away.Thumbs Down Dead

How has everyone else here been spending the holidays?

Merry Christmas from Calgary. I had a tasty Christmas dinner at my sister's place and an pleasant visit. Today I think I will assault a few Boxing Day sales.

I've enjoyed your questions on the forum in recent weeks. I am not always current with the goings on, but very few endeavours in this world are as bound up in their history as railroading. What once was often still is, because of the historical context when the railways were built. And there are few things I enjoy more than studying Canadian railway history. Having lived in some of it! Big Smile

 Thanks Agent KidThumbs Up

I used to live in Calgary up to about 30 month ago. Used to love train watching in that town. I lived just across from the Canadian Pacific main line and saw a lot of action from my window. Pull up a chair on a quiet evening and watch a lot trains go by. Shy

An interesting question. As you will remember from a few issues back in TRAINS, CN has discontinued through service from Saskatoon to Calgary. Local service on the Hanna Sub. is provided from Calgary. I suspect the power requirements getting in and out of Drumheller makes it difficult to keep the line profitable.

I don't normally get a chance to see the operations at Sarcee yard, but the odd time I am by it seems like they still do a good intermodal business up and down the Three Hills Sub. to Edmonton. As to actual train counts I have no idea.

I've been by Sarcee once since the article in TRAINS and at that time it didn't seem like they were hurting for work, but the size of their operation here, overall, is smaller than CP's.

Thanks for the information on the Saskatoon to Calgary run. Thumbs Up I didn't get a chance to read the article on the discontinuation of that rail line. It's been about 5 to 6 years since I left Saskatoon. At that time there was one general frieght between the two cities with a grain train every 2 or 3 days. I was surprised by what you said about the line was no longer running as 5 or 6 years ago the general frieght was about 75 rail cars long based on the trains I saw with a couple of 5700 series on the frieght end. So I'm a bit Sad over the fact.
